The Unique Superannuation Identifier (USI) is the primary way a super fund identifies the member’s superannuation product. In 2013, super funds were required to register USIs to identify each of their products.

Over coming years, USIs will replace Superannuation Product Identification Numbers (SPINs) as the primary way to identify individual super products.

It is important for the employer to confirm the correct product with the member and to provide the correct and corresponding USI information when sending through the contribution. If the incorrect USI is provided, this results in unnecessary delays to processing.

Note: All Superannuation products with the exception of non-Super products (i.e. Unit Trusts, Investment Service) will have a USI.
