Sea or tree change

A change of location to suit your retirement lifestyle?

Sea or tree change, what's the difference?

A sea change is moving away from the hustle and bustle of city life, to a much quieter and relaxed coastal town by the sea. A tree change is moving inland to live in a country town or a place by the mountains.

Before you make the move right for you, make sure you’ve researched the area you’re planning to move to. You don’t want to realise it’s not the place for you, after you’ve moved.

Important things to consider

  • Visit and holiday in your desired location to a get a feel for the place.
  • Check out year round weather forecasts.
  • Use the transport options available to see if they suit your travel needs.
  • Inspect the health facilities and visit the local GP.
  • See if there are other services available that you might need, particularly if you have any special requirements.
  • Find out what part time jobs are available, in case you decide to do the odd job to keep busy.
  • Call into the police station and ask about how secure the local neighbourhood is.
  • Chat with the local residents and others who’ve made the same sea or tree change.

Once you’ve considered these things, you’ll be much better prepared for a desired sea or tree change.
