CEO, MLC Wealth
In his role, Geoff is responsible for over 1,200 financial advisers, Australia’s largest retail super fund ($80bn of FUM) and Asset Management (AUM of $199bn), and will lead MLC Wealth towards separation from the National Australia Bank (NAB).
Geoff will also take the lead in helping MLC Wealth’s one million customers plan for and live well in retirement.
Prior to joining MLC Wealth, Geoff was CEO and Managing Director of Perpetual Limited, where he and his senior leadership team successfully delivered Perpetual’s strategy designed to simplify, refocus and grow the company.
Prior to that, he held a number of senior roles at BT Financial Group and St George's Wealth Management business including, Group Executive, Wealth, General Manager, Advice and Private Banking and Chief Legal Counsel.
He is the Chair of the Financial Services Council, an Advisory Board member of The Big Issue, and the Patron of the Financial Industry Community Aid Program (FICAP). He is also a patron of the Emerge Foundation, a signatory to the Banking and Finance Oath, and the Chair of the University of Technology Sydney Law Advisory Board.
Geoff has over 20 years' experience in the financial services industry and has an extensive understanding of the industry and demonstrated leadership skills.
Geoff has a Master of Laws (Distinction) from the University of Technology Sydney and has completed the Harvard University Advanced Management Program.
EGM, Super and Solutions
Originally joining MLC in 1991, which was subsequently acquired by the NAB Group in 2000, Garry has held a number of senior roles in both Australia and the UK across MLC and NAB in Strategy & Marketing, Product Management, Distribution and General Management. In his most recent role he led the Asset Management business for eight years. He is currently responsible for Corporate Super, Asset Management, Wealth Products & Platforms, Wealth & Asset Management Services, Wealth Product & Platform Enablement and Wealth Marketing & Customer Strategy on an interim basis while the future MLC plan and organisational structure is bedded down.
Garry has been a Director of a number of NAB Group companies covering both Banking and Wealth Management and is currently Director of several NAB Asset Management boutique partners and MLC Wealth related boards such as National Wealth Management Services Limited. He holds a BA in economics.
Geoff was appointed General Manager Distribution in March 2012. In this role he is responsible for all sales from retail Platform and Asset Management offers to Advisers.
Prior to this role, Geoff was responsible for leading NAB Financial Planning for a period of four years. Geoff also headed up the Wealth Management operations for the Bank of New Zealand for two and a half years as General Manager of Insurance and Investments.
Along with other assignments in Asia, Geoff was CEO of Advance MLC, establishing and operating the start-up Life Insurance and Funds Management businesses in Thailand.
Prior to his roles in Asia he spent many years dealing with superannuation, including having responsibility for MLC’s Superannuation and Income Stream Platform offers.
Geoff is a family man with a huge passion for cycling.
GM, Regulatory Change and Remediation
Chris joined MLC in 2008 holding a variety of leadership roles across Technology, Project Delivery and Business Transformation. Chris was appointed as General Manager- Regulatory, Change & Remediation in March 2018.
Chris has a Masters Degree in Project Management from the University of Sydney and prior to joining MLC worked across a number of industries including retail banking, defence, transport and telecommunications, leading large, complex business and technology change.
GM, Wealth Operations
Russell has worked at NAB for 38 years and as a senior leader has worked across the Corporate Bank, Business Bank, Personal Bank and Risk business.
Whilst having a diverse segment background, his main experiences have been in leading Distribution Sales teams to achieve NABs goals. A three year period in Risk and a one year period in Consumer Product complemented what has largely been customer facing roles, and he has added to that by completing an MBA whilst spending time with NAB Group in the UK.
His current role is leading the Wealth Operations business in NAB Wealth where he has worked for the past six years and these prior broad business roles have been a good backdrop to the current Ops leadership role.
GM, NABFP and Direct Advice
Tim joined NAB Financial Planning in 2016 where he is responsible for more than 400 salaried and self-employed advisers providing quality advice to NAB clients.
Prior to this, Tim was Managing Director for ipac and Genesys where he successfully led various customer focussed and strategic business initiatives.
Tim was also Director of AMP Horizons and other programs of work to support emerging talent.
Throughout his career, Tim has demonstrated a track record of leading large teams to help advisers grow and develop their businesses, and provide customers with high quality financial advice and an exceptional experience.
Tim also is a member of the Sydney Advisory Group for Many Rivers Microfinance.
Ross Barnwell joined NAB in 2012, to drive a consumer centric strategy and culture across the business. In December 2017, Ross was appointed General Manager, NAB Advice – Overseeing and transforming a portfolio that encompasses the operational areas of Advice across the NAB owned Licensees, from client engagement to monitoring & supervision and future state design.
Prior to this Ross held the position of General Manager—MLC Advice Partnerships from April 2014, where he was responsible for the NAB Wealth portfolio of advice businesses including Garvan, MLC Financial Planning, Apogee Financial Planning, Meritum Financial Group, MLC Advice and Godfrey Pembroke.
He has more than 25 years of experience in the wealth industry, covering both retail and institutional markets.
Ross holds a Bachelor of Economics from the University of Queensland, and a Graduate Diploma in Applied Finance and Investments. He holds various positions on a number advice and investment boards. Ross’ strategic thinking and client-centric focus are a real asset to the NAB team.
