The Garvan Institute of Medical Research is internationally recognised as a leader in applying gene-based medical research to treat and prevent major diseases.

MLC is proud of our partnership with the Garvan Institute that commenced in 2004 with the start of a five year relationship providing vital financial support to assist the valuable medical research.

While it may appear that MLC's relationship with the Garvan Institute is a recent one, in fact our connections go back almost 120 years.

From an historical perspective, James Patrick Garvan, for whom the Garvan Institute of Medical Research is named, founded the Citizens Life Assurance Company Ltd in 1886, and which later became MLC. Within MLC, Garvan Financial Planning also carries the legacy of the Garvan name.

There is a distinct historical and strategic fit with our businesses. Both companies are committed to the long-term health and wellbeing of our communities - MLC with its focus on holistic financial advice and the Garvan Institute with it's major disease prevention research.
